The host of the webinar is Lothar Schubart – Director, Developer relations GE Digital, delivered a long hour and plus webinar discussing about industrial IoT, with a case study of GE’s Predix IIoT platform, and how to join the fast-growing community of Industrial Internet developers. The host spent most of his time talking about the implementation and impact of Predix in IIOT.

At the beginning of the webinar, the host started off with the opportunity for industrial IoT, where he explains in statistics that we are so much living in a connected world of intelligent devices and it is expanding hugely. He stated that at least 15 Billion connected devices will be by 2020, and also detailed the market for software and service will add value to $225 billion by 2020. The hosts explained how Delta airlines has 1800+ engine fleet monitored with GE solution, and how the market opportunity brings competition and open new ways for organizations to leverage their business for instance, Lixil can reduce scheduling time by 66% with the use of the IoT.

The host then talks about the industrial benefits of IoT, where he spoke highly of the benefits laid by IoT in modern industries, he started with Aviation industry and said; Aircraft engines are equipped with sensors that generates thousands of data from the sensors and operational data, the information can then be used to fly economically and reliable. And added with stability improvements, reduced un plan downtime, and thus increase in output surplus. He then talk about the Healthcare unit and said, image, VR recognition, and patients screening can be connected to partitioners for diagnosis to reduced the risk of long-term treatment.

The host then jump to talk about the IoT impacts and outcomes and gave a sample written by Gartner, “By 2021, half of large large industrial companies will use ‘digital twins’, resulting in the organizations gaining a 10% improvement in effectiveness”.

Reflection: What i learned so far!

Hello, i hope everybody is doing well. Today i want to share some information about what i learnt in the lecture session during my early classes.

The lectures are delivered in two days Monday-Tuesday, which is fitting after a weekend, meaning i get to attend my lectures fresh starting a week. The module started on 4th of June. It was like half an hour before the class session begins and i found my self trying to figure out which lecture room it was, because the lecture environment was changed after my first module from the main University to Media city. When i arrive at the lecture room i was a bit nervous because i was late to the class finding my way. During the Lecture, the module leader Dr Mostafa Mohamad address the importance of time management relating to late comers in the lecture which was quite effective in my next lectures.

On the second week, i went to the class all sleepy and stuff where i met one of the tutors Mr Firas armosh, the session was fun to me because i engaged in the activities and the topic of the days discussion, which was information systems in organizations, and disruptive technologies which was useful and i get to contribute in bringing some examples of overall IS of running organizations under ERP.

Moreover, i come up with how to cohere the useful organizational IS that i learned in class to my assignment. i picked up some new trends on information system which i used like;

  • intelligent systems – to add capabilities to human nature
  • ERP systems – managing overal organizations
  • CRM systems – manage companies relationship with its customers

This has helped me in making my assignments easier and understanding more about the assessment and the module in general.
