The host of the webinar is Lothar Schubart – Director, Developer relations GE Digital, delivered a long hour and plus webinar discussing about industrial IoT, with a case study of GE’s Predix IIoT platform, and how to join the fast-growing community of Industrial Internet developers. The host spent most of his time talking about the implementation and impact of Predix in IIOT.
At the beginning of the webinar, the host started off with the opportunity for industrial IoT, where he explains in statistics that we are so much living in a connected world of intelligent devices and it is expanding hugely. He stated that at least 15 Billion connected devices will be by 2020, and also detailed the market for software and service will add value to $225 billion by 2020. The hosts explained how Delta airlines has 1800+ engine fleet monitored with GE solution, and how the market opportunity brings competition and open new ways for organizations to leverage their business for instance, Lixil can reduce scheduling time by 66% with the use of the IoT.
The host then talks about the industrial benefits of IoT, where he spoke highly of the benefits laid by IoT in modern industries, he started with Aviation industry and said; Aircraft engines are equipped with sensors that generates thousands of data from the sensors and operational data, the information can then be used to fly economically and reliable. And added with stability improvements, reduced un plan downtime, and thus increase in output surplus. He then talk about the Healthcare unit and said, image, VR recognition, and patients screening can be connected to partitioners for diagnosis to reduced the risk of long-term treatment.
The host then jump to talk about the IoT impacts and outcomes and gave a sample written by Gartner, “By 2021, half of large large industrial companies will use ‘digital twins’, resulting in the organizations gaining a 10% improvement in effectiveness”.
The phrase digital twins is a digital analogue to physical or digital representation of a physical asset, and is core to the industrial IoT (IIOT) essentially by connecting devices to sensors, data, and analytics, developed and used by GE Digital, and the speaker set an example of GE’s asset predix. Predix is the application used to leverage digital twins.
The host then finally get to the main topic case study of the webinar, the Predix. Predix is an application platform, a developer network that help you to develop, deploy, and operate industrial applications at the edge and in the cloud, as stated by the speaker. It securely connects machines, data and analytics to improve operational efficiency. It ranges from run applications that involves; platform services, infrastructure to extension and building which involves high-productivity developments, full stack development.
Overall, the host has outline all the necessary industrial internet of things statement, regardless of which industry it is, the opportunities of excelling in the market raises high by implementing IoT and not forgetting the exponential market growth. The host have used case examples of different sectors and has outlined a cloud invention sample, the predix application and how it impacted so many developers.
On being part of this webinar, i specifically thin the speaker bridge the gap between the modern industry and the cloud industry, and he has clearly set out paths of reaching out to a modern connected network, using a preference of the GE’s invention, the digital twins.
Moreover, the market is growing for intelligent or smart connectivity, but there are still room for other industries and growing technologies to adhere and revive together to make best use of their resources.
